"Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit.
For apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5
We are Called to Bear Fruit
At the Mystical Supper, Jesus instructed His disciples, “I Am the Vine; you are the branches.” He was telling us that the purpose of our abiding in Him is that we may bear fruit for God in the world. “By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit…” (John 15:8). Just as the vine bears fruit only through its branches, so Jesus has chosen to work in the world through us. We are the members of His Body. We are the branches through which the True Vine must bear fruit. We bear fruit when we serve and support God and His Church.
Our Beloved Brethren and Friends of Archdiocesan Cathedral:
Our beloved Holy Trinity Archdiocesan Cathedral has seen many changes in 2011, and these changes remind us all of our corporate responsibility for our precious Cathedral. From the Archbishop to the Parish Council, from the clergy who serve in the Holy Altar to everyone in the pews, we all have the duty to support and enhance the mission of the Cathedral.
As we begin our 2012 Cathedral Stewardship Campaign, please consider carefully how you and your family want to offer your best time, treasure and talent to the Church. The needs are many: there are capital needs for improvements to the buildings; there are needs to support the staffing; there are the everyday expenses of meeting a responsible budget.
There are indeed heavy burdens to lift, and your help is much needed. A mere $20 per week – less than two tickets to the movies – brings over $1,000 per year to the Cathedral. Fifty dollars per week brings $2,500.00 per year! Between family entertainment expenses (cable, internet, etc.) and the occasional dining out, many of us spend much more per week on enhancing our own experience of life. But there is also a spiritual life, which begins and ends at the Holy Table from whence we receive – not entertainments and earthly food and drink – but the source of Eternal Life, Resurrection and the riches of Grace.
Friends and Brothers and Sisters: if you have never been a steward of the Cathedral, take the time to give due and careful consideration to supporting the Church family that is always here for you. If you have made that commitment in the past, carefully review your stewardship support and consider the level of increase that is consistent with your ability and your willingness.
With much thankfulness for your love of God, Church and one another, thank you in advance for your generosity.
